Spring cleaning but make it skin

🌿 “Spring Cleaning… But Make It Skin (and Soil, and Soul)”

March hits and suddenly everyone wants a reset.
Closets get cleaned, routines get rebuilt, and somewhere along the way… people start going to war with their skin.

Let me lovingly stop you right there.

Spring isn’t about force.
It’s about growth, support, and planting what you actually want to see later.

And your skin?
She follows the same rules as nature.

Have you noticed a Pattern Where monthly is a do over. We didn’t stay consistent last month so let’s try the exact same thing…

Starting over is okay, but let’s take into account weather, ingredients we used last month, the progress that you made. lessons learned. We need to start building and adjusting not just starting over. Did we build our barrier or ruin it?

Now let’s figure out if we have found what’s for us. Maybe now is the time to add in that active or take away. Did we find the right cleanser for our skin yet? No? Then start there. Do we have a moisturizer? Get it if not. Do we have SPF? Get it!

Once you have your cleanser, moisturizer, SPF we continue to build that routine with actives and serums that specifically are for you and you alone.

Here I have something called the “core 4” it is only 4 products that give you the essentials that your skin needs. You don’t need an extensive homecare.

🌱 Skin = Soil (Stay With Me Here)

You cannot plant seeds in dry, cracked, nutrient-depleted soil and expect a thriving garden.

Same with your skin.

If your barrier is compromised, dehydrated, or inflamed:

  • Breakouts linger

  • Pigmentation worsens

  • Nothing “works” the way it should

So before we talk glow, exfoliation, or correction…

We ask:
What are we growing in?

🌸 Spring Skin = Support, Not Stripping

March is not your “scrub everything off” era.

It’s your:

  • Circulation

  • Lymphatic drainage

  • Gentle exfoliation

  • Barrier rebuilding

era.

Because real glow doesn’t come from aggression.
It comes from functioning skin.

☀️ SPF… We Need to Talk (All Skin Types, Yes—You Too)

Let’s clear this up right now:

Every single skin type, tone, and ethnicity needs SPF.

I don’t care if you:

  • “Don’t burn”

  • Have deeper skin

  • Stay inside most of the day

You still need protection.

🧬 How Melanin Actually Works (and Why This Matters)

Melanin is your skin’s natural protector.

When your skin senses stress (like UV exposure), it produces melanin to shield deeper layers from damage.

That’s why:

  • You tan

  • You develop dark spots

  • Old acne marks get darker in the sun

But here’s the part most people don’t realize:

Those “sunspots” or dark spots?
They’re not just random damage.

They’re your body saying:
“Hey… this area has experienced trauma before. I’m stepping in to protect it.”

Melanin is intelligent. Protective. Responsive.

But without SPF, it goes into overdrive—
and that’s when we see:

  • Hyperpigmentation

  • Uneven tone

  • Stubborn spots that won’t budge

So no—SPF isn’t just about preventing burns.
It’s about regulating how your skin protects itself.

🧴 Physical vs Chemical SPF (Let’s Keep It Real + Simple)

You’ve probably heard this debate and thought… “which one is actually better?”

Here’s the truth:

🌿 Physical (Mineral) SPF

Sits on top of the skin and reflects UV rays.

Look for:

  • Zinc Oxide

  • Titanium Dioxide

Best for:

  • Sensitive skin

  • Acne-prone skin

  • Post-treatment skin

Why I love it:
It’s supportive, calming, and less likely to cause irritation. So, for everyone!

🧪 Chemical SPF

Absorbs UV rays into skin and converts them into heat.

Common ingredients:

  • Avobenzone

  • Octinoxate

  • Oxybenzone

Can be:

  • Lightweight

  • More invisible on the skin

But… not always barrier-friendly for everyone. Not my favorite.

🚩 Ingredients I Want You to Be Aware Of (Respectfully)

We’re not fear-mongering—but we are being intentional.

Things I personally recommend being mindful of:

  • Oxybenzone (hormone-disrupting concerns)

  • Octinoxate (environmental + sensitivity concerns)

  • Heavy synthetic fragrances

  • Alcohol-heavy formulas (can dry + irritate)

✨ What to Look For Instead

  • Zinc-based SPFs

  • Non-comedogenic formulas

  • Added antioxidants (vitamin C, E, green tea)

  • Hydrating bases (so your skin doesn’t feel tight by noon)

🌿 Herbalism + Skin: What You Grow Supports Your Glow

March is planting season… and I love tying this into skin because:

What you grow → what you eat → how your skin functions

Let’s make this fun and intentional.

🪴 Easy Spring Herbs + Their Skin Benefits

🌿 Cilantro

  • Supports detox pathways

  • Helps remove heavy metals

  • Great for inflammation

🌿 Parsley

  • Rich in vitamin C

  • Supports digestion (gut = skin connection 👀)

🥕 Veggies to Start Now

Carrots

  • Beta-carotene → converts to vitamin A

Leafy Greens (spinach, kale)

  • Minerals + antioxidants

  • Helps calm acne + inflammation

Beets

  • Blood flow + detox support

  • Think: natural glow from within

🌱 The Bigger Picture

You can have the best skincare routine in the world…

But if your internal environment is inflamed, sluggish, or depleted—
your skin will show it.

Skin is not separate from the body.
It’s a reflection of it.

💆‍♀️ March in My Treatment Room

This month, everything I focus on is about:

  • Supporting your skin (not shocking it)

  • Encouraging circulation + detox pathways

  • Prepping your skin for increased sun exposure

Because we’re not chasing glow.

We’re building it—intentionally.

🌼 Final Thought (Your Gentle Reality Check)

You don’t plant a seed and dig it up the next day to see if it’s growing.

So stop doing that to your skin.

Give it:

  • Consistency

  • Support

  • Protection

And watch what happens.

If you’re ready to treat your skin like something you’re growing—not fixing—this is the season to start. Your summer skin is already being decided… right now.
